A video is being shared on social media where a child’s body can be seen exhumed from a grave. Allegedly, this child has been in the tomb for two years, and was exhumed based on the request of the child who would visit her father in his dreams and ask him to shift her dead remains to another place. Further, it is claimed that the corpse did not decompose at all. Let’s verify this claim through this article.
Claim: A girl’s dead body remained undecomposed for two years which was discovered when her body was being shifted to a new graveyard based on her request in her father’s dreams
Fact: This incident took place in Iraq in an area known as Kasnazan. As per Fatabyyano, the child in the video died due to a heart ailment and was being shifted from the grave where he was buried for two days based on his mother’s request. She wanted his burial to be closer so she could visit her child. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
We performed a reverse image search on the keyframes of the video, which led us to many social media posts with the same video (here and here). Each of them is titled in different languages. One Instagram page uploaded the same video; its description was written in Persian as per Google language auto-detect. Based on this hint, we searched the internet with relevant keywords and found a fact-check article by the Arabic language fact-checking website Fatabyyano.
According to them, this incident took place in Iraq in 2018, and the child seen in the video, a boy, lost his life due to a chronic heart ailment. His remains were buried in an area known as Kasnazan and two days later shifted to a place known as Erbil, based on his mother’s request. She requested a location shift so she could visit her son anytime. Contrary to what the post says, the child’s dead body was not removed from this grave after two years but two days. The viral post shares a false and made-up story surrounding this video.
