A video (here, here, and here) is circulating on social media, alleging that the traffic warden was beaten and robbed by a group of men, identified as Muslims, for issuing a ticket. The post implies that this incident occurred following the 2024 UK elections where the Labour Party defeated the governing Conservative Party in a landslide victory (here and here).

The Archived post can be seen here.

Claim: Visuals of a traffic warden being beaten up and robbed by Muslim men after the Labour party won the 2024 elections in the UK.

Fact: This incident took place in September 2018 when the Conservative party was in power. Danyal Bashir and a group of other men were filmed brutally attacking traffic warden Charlie Weston in Hartopp Road, Alum Rock, Birmingham. This incident has nothing to do with the 2024 election results. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

On performing a reverse image search using the keyframes of the viral video, we found news reports published sharing the same footage and screenshots of the viral video (here, here, and here). An article published by ‘Mirror’ in September 2018 with the title “Gang of masked thugs kick-stricken traffic warden in the head and rob him of his moped in shocking footing”

According to reports, Danyal Bashir and a group of other men were filmed brutally attacking traffic warden Charlie Weston. Onlookers recorded Bashir and the group trying to rip off Charlie Weston’s helmet before he was repeatedly stamped on in Hartopp Road, Alum Rock, Birmingham, on 14 September 2018. At Birmingham Crown Court, Bashir was sentenced to nine months in a young offender’s institution for assault.

To sum up, these visuals of a group of men beating the traffic warden are from 2018 and have nothing to do with the recent 2024 elections in UK.
