A video is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows how a former BSP MP surrendered before the Uttar Pradesh police. In the post, it is also written that he is a wanted gangster, and he surrendered after police announced a reward over his head. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video of a former BSP MP surrendering before the UP police by falling at the feet of an officer.
Fact: The person surrendering before the police in the video is not a former BSP MP. His name is Naeem, a gangster. There is no former BSP MP with the name – ‘Naeem’. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When we searched about the posted video on the internet, many similar videos were found in the search results. The same video was posted by the ‘CRUX’ YouTube channel in September 2020 with the title – ‘Fearing Encounter Gangster Walks-In To Sambhal Police Station With Placard ‘Please Don’t Shoot Me’’. In the description of the video, it can be read that the name of the gangster in the video is Naeem. The articles published by several news agencies on the incident can be read here, here, and here.
‘Sambhal Police’ have also tweeted on the incident. The tweets can be seen here and here. None of them mentioned that Naeem is a former BSP MP. Also, when we searched on the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha websites, no former BSP MP with the name – ‘Naeem’ was found.

To sum it up, the person falling at the feet of the police and surrendering in this video is not a former BSP MP.
