A photo is posted on social media with a claim that it shows the Karnataka Youth Congress office inauguration. It is being shared widely with sarcastic comments as the leaders can be seen doing Islamic prayers in the photo. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Photo of Congress leaders performing Islamic prayers at Karnataka Youth Congress office inauguration.
Fact: The photo is authentic, and it is true that Congress leaders performed Islamic prayers as shown in the photo. However, they have also performed other religious prayers too. A havan was also performed at the Congress Bhavan as Youth Congress leader Mohammed Haris Nalapad took charge as the KPYCC President. Only the photo of Muslim prayers is being shared selectively on social media to mock them. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
When we searched for the posted photo on the internet, a similar photo was found to be tweeted by Mohammed Haris Nalapad and ‘IYC Karnataka’. So, the posted photo is authentic. However, in photos tweeted by them, it can be seen that other religious prayers were performed as well.
In ‘The New Indian Express’ article, it can be read that a havan was also performed at the Congress Bhavan as Youth Congress leader Mohammed Haris Nalapad took charge as KPYCC President. According to the ‘Deccan Herald’ article, Nalapad ‘inaugurated his office with rituals as per Hindu, Muslim and Christian customs’. The videos related to the event can be watched here, here, and here.
To sum it up, the new KPYCC President Nalapad took charge by performing prayers of various religions, not just Islam.
