A viral video allegedly shows a mosque collapsing as a result of bomb-making training inside it gone awry. Social media posts sharing this video claim that such training is happening in all madarsas. A few days ago, the same video was shared with a claim that RSS was behind the collapse of this mosque. We will verify this claim through this article.
Claim: The viral video shows a mosque collapsing during a bomb-making training conducted inside the mosque in Delhi.
Fact: The incident in the viral video took place in old Delhi, where a portion of a mosque named ‘`Sangmarmar Mosque’ reportedly collapsed after cracks appeared on it on 17 June 2024. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet, which led us to multiple news reports (here, here, and here) about the incident in the viral video.
Reportedly, a portion of a 70-year-old mosque in Old Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area collapsed on 17 June 2024 after developing cracks in its walls.
According to a spokesperson (here and here) from The Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the mosque collapsed due to a weak foundation.
None of the news reports mentioned bomb-making training as the cause of the building’s collapse, which makes the viral claim fake. Additionally, we found no proof to claim that the RSS was behind this.
To sum up, the mosque in this viral video collapsed due to a weak foundation and not because bomb-making training went awry or the RSS.
