A news clip of India Today is being shared on social media in which an anchor can be seen reporting that a regional party leader of Manipur wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi, blaming the Congress party for the current Manipur crisis. Sharing this clip through a post on social media, it is claimed that’ Manipur Congress President has written a letter to Rahul Gandhi saying that Congress is responsible for the current problem by infiltrating Rohingyas & Bangladeshi for its vote bank.‘ Let’s verify this post through this fact-checking article.

Fact: The viral video is an edited version of a news report published by India today. In the full version, it was reported that Naorem Mohen, the General Secretary of the Manipur Patriotic Party, wrote the letter to Rahul Gandhi. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.

Firstly, taking a closer look at the news clip, we noticed that a quote that reads ‘Crisis outcome of policy by Congress’ was attributed to a person named Mohen. Also, at 0:14 seconds of the news clip, the anchor says Naorem Mohen is the person who wrote the letter to Rahul Gandhi.

Taking this as a clue, we ran a keyword search on the internet, which led us to news reports (here and here)from last month. 

Reportedly, a person named Naorem Mohen, who is the General Secretary of The Manipur Patriotic Party, wrote an open letter to Rahul Gandhi in which he attributed the current political crisis to the continuation of a British policy by the Congress Party. We also found a longer version of the India Today news report, of which the viral clip is a part. In the report, it is clearly mentioned that Naorem Mohen is the person who wrote the letter to Rahul Gandhi.
