A video featuring a woman dancing to the song ‘Mere Ghar Ram Aaye Hain‘ has been circulating widely on social media claiming that the woman in the video is Ananya Das, the district collector of Sambalpur, Odisha. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Sambalpur district collector Ananya Das dancing to ‘Mere Ghar Ram Aaye Hain‘ song.
Fact: The woman featured in the video is Mradula Mahajan, a content creator, not Ananya Das, the ex-district collector of Sambalpur. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
Initially, we compared the images of Ananya Das, ex-collector (& DM) of Sambalpur, with the woman in the viral video. The comparison revealed that the woman in the viral video is not Ananya Das.
Furthermore, a reverse image search of the viral video led us to its original source. The video, showcasing herself, was shared by content creator Mradula Mahajan on social media platforms (here and here) in January 2024.
Moreover, when the video went viral, Ananya Das herself clarified that she was not the dancer in the video. Additionally, Ananya Das has recently been appointed as the Joint Secretary to the Government, in the Handloom, Textiles & Handicrafts Department. Akshay Sunil Agrawal, the collector of Mayurbhanj, will succeed her as the collector of Sambalpur.
To sum it up, the woman dancing in the video is not Sambalpur district collector Ananya Das.
