A video is going viral on social media (here, here, and here) claiming to show visuals from the crime scene of an alleged ‘love jihad’ incident in Vikhroli, Mumbai, where a Muslim man allegedly tried to kill a Hindu woman. The posts further claim that a police officer and a few Hindu bystanders present at the scene intervened and saved the woman, while the attacker was killed. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows a ‘love jihad’ incident in Vikhroli, Mumbai, where a Muslim man attacked a Hindu woman.

Fact: The video actually shows a 24 October 2025 incident from the Kalachowkie area of central Mumbai, where a man named Sonu Barai fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend Manisha Yadav before slitting his own throat and dying on the spot. Manisha sustained multiple injuries and died during treatment at a hospital in Byculla. The attack stemmed from personal relationship issues. The Kalachowkie Police confirmed to Factly that both the victim and the accused belong to the Hindu community, and there is no communal or ‘love jihad’ angle to the case. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords and found multiple media reports (here, here, and here) on the incident, which featured screenshots from the viral video. According to these reports, the incident occurred in the Kalachowkie area of central Mumbai on 24 October 2025, when 24-year-old Sonu Barai chased and fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Manisha, in public around 11 am, nearly two weeks after the couple reportedly ended their relationship. Manisha sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Dr Ambedkar Hospital in Byculla, where she died during treatment. Moments after the attack, Sonu slit his own throat at the spot and died from his injuries.

Following the incident, Mumbai Police registered a murder case relating to Manisha’s death and completed procedural formalities regarding Sonu’s suicide. Statements from eyewitnesses and family members were recorded, CCTV footage was examined, and the weapon used in the assault was recovered. Police confirmed that the motive stemmed from personal relationship issues. As Sonu died on the spot and no further leads remained, the investigation concluded with a closure report.

To verify the name of the accused, we accessed the FIR copy of the case and found that the name and case details matched those mentioned in media reports.

To check if any communal angle was involved, Factly contacted the Kalachowkie Police Station. Sub-Inspector Shetty confirmed that both the accused and the victim belong to the Hindu community and that there is no communal angle to the case.

To sum up, the accused in the Vikhroli incident, where a man fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend before killing himself, is not Muslim.
