Claim: Hyderabad Police seized Rs 8 crore cash withdrawn from BJP’s bank account.

Fact: Telangana Police Authorities confirmed that they have seized the cash and transferred the cash to the Income Tax department as the cash seized was greater than 10 lakhs. Hence the claim made in the post is TRUE.

The article referred to in the post  is published by ‘The Wire’.  So, to confirm if the report was true, FACTLY contacted the Telangana Police Authorities and spoke to them over telephone. The police authorities confirmed that they have seized the cash of Rs. 8 crore and handed over the same to the IT department, as the cash seized was greater than 10 lakhs. There is a rule in the ‘Standard Operating Procedure for seizure and release of cash and other items’ as published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) that if the seized amount is greater than 10 lakhs then that case has to be transferred to the IT department for further enquiry.

Since the money seized has been withdrawn from the BJP’s bank account, the Police authorities said that they have conducted only a preliminary enquiry and cannot comment on the source of the amount seized and if that was legitimate. They said that the IT Department will look into these issues going forward.
