A video is being widely shared on social media claiming that TikTok star Piyanka Mongia passed away recently in an accident. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.
Claim: Social media influencer Piyanka Mongia passed away recently in an accident.
Fact: Piyanka Mongia is still alive, and this video informing about the death news of Piyanka is fake. Piyanka Mongia recently published a video on her Instagram and YouTube channels on 21 December 2022. Unrelated visuals of an old accident and the funeral procession of BJP leader Sonali Phogat are shared as the visuals of Piyanka’s death. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When we searched to check whether social media influencer Piyanka Mongia had passed away recently in an accident, we could not find any news report confirming this information. Several YouTube channels and many users in the comments section of the video clarified it as fake news saying Piyanka Mongia is completely healthy and did not die in a car accident. Piyanka Mongia, a social media influencer who has more than 8 million followers on Instagram, recently published a video on her Instagram page and YouTube channel on 21 December 2022.
In 2020, when similar news about her death were circulated on social media, Piyanka Mongia in a live video clarified the news as fake and said she had not met with any accident.
On reverse image search of the accident visuals shared in the video, we found the same picture in an article published by the ‘Times of India’ on 12 August 2018. TOI reported it as the picture of a chain collision of vehicles on an elevated corridor near Pitampura in northwest Delhi. Piyanka’s name was not mentioned in the list of eight people injured in this accident.
Also, the funeral procession visuals seen in the video shows the funeral procession of late BJP leader Sonali Phogat. A few more visuals of Sonali Phogat’s funeral procession can be seen here. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that social media influencer Piyanka Mongia is still alive, and the video shared in the post shows unrelated visuals of an old accident and the funeral procession of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
To sum it up, social media influencer Piyanka Mongia is still alive; this video informing Piyanka’s death in a car accident is fake.
