Visuals of mob attack in Pakistan are shared as attack on Hindu homes in Telangana’s Hyderabad

Following the arrest of a now suspended Telangana BJP MLA for his alleged derogatory comments on Prophet Mohammad, mild tensions were reported in the old city area in Hyderabad. Against this backdrop, a video of an angry mob attacking a house is being widely shared claiming that Muslims are destroying the Hindus homes in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Fact: According to the media reports, this incident happened on 21 August 2022 in Pakistan’s Sindh province. A Hindu man was booked for alleged blasphemy. Knowing this, an angry mod tried to get hold of him. However, police quickly dispersed them. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

We searched the web with relevant keywords and found several other videos matching the visuals in the viral video. Several news channels and reported this incident. They can be seen here, here, and here.

According to these reports, on 21 August 2022, a Hindu sanitary worker Ashok Kumar was booked under 295B of blasphemy over alleged desecration of Quran in Pakistan’s Hyderabad. The allegation came after a brawl with a local shopkeeper who then lodged a complaint against Ashok Kumar. Police took Kumar into their custody.

Knowing this, a huge mob gathered and tried to get hold of Kumar. Later, Sindh police dispersed the mob. However, it was later known that a Muslim woman burnt the Quran.
