Multiple posts (here & here) claiming that Reliance Jio is offering a one-month free recharge to all Jio users on the occasion of Mukesh Ambani’s birthday and Anant Ambani’s marriage are being widely shared across social media platforms. Through this article, let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Jio is offering a one-month free recharge to all Jio users on the occasion of Mukesh Ambani’s birthday and Anant Ambani’s marriage.
Fact: This viral message is fake. Reliance Jio is not offering any free recharge on the occasion of Mukesh Ambani’s birthday and Anant Ambani’s wedding. The link provided in the post directs to a dubious website. There are many news reports about cybercriminals committing cybercrimes through such fake messages and websites. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we checked Jio’s official website and did not find any information about such an offer in the list of promotions. Additionally, there are no special paid recharge options on Jio’s website in connection with Mukesh Ambani’s birthday and Anant Ambani’s marriage. Further investigation revealed that Mukesh Ambani’s birthday is not in March but in April; he was born on 19 April 1957. Anant Ambani is scheduled to get married on 12 July 2024. We also examined Jio’s social media handles, but no such offer was mentioned there either (here & here).
Later, we clicked on the link shared in one of the posts, which claimed to offer a one-month free recharge. This link directed us to a website called goodphoneoffer.com. We found this website suspicious because it is not associated with Jio or its subsidiaries. Furthermore, the website claims to offer free recharges for VI and Airtel users as well.
Providing our mobile numbers to such dubious websites may result in receiving spam calls, messages, and even phishing links. Therefore, one should be careful and avoid opening these kinds of links and websites.
