Claim: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has announced retirement from the sport.

Fact: PV did not announce her retirement from the sport. A cryptic tweet regarding coronavirus, the unrest and uncertainty surrounding it which led to her not representing India in Denmark Open has caused the buzz that she is getting retired. Many news agencies fell for this tweet and misreported that she is getting retired. Even Amit Shah tweeted wishing her, which he later deleted. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Google search with relevant keywords led us to a cryptic tweet by PV Sindhu which led to the buzz surrounding her retirement. In this particular tweet, Sindhu talks about coronavirus and the struggles associated with it. Through this tweet, she announced that she would retire from the sense of unrest, negativity and uncertainty which coronavirus has created in her. However nowhere in the tweet, she mentioned that she is getting retired from the sport. Moreover, her tweet clearly states that she would come for Asia Open. She mentioned in the tweet that this cryptic message is just to create impact and make people take notice of their careless attitude towards the virus.

Several news agencies fell for this cryptic tweet and they misreported that PV Sindhu retired from the sport. They later updated that she has not retired. Even the Union Home minister Amit Shah tweeted wishing her on retirement. He deleted the tweet later.

To sum it up, PV Sindhu did not announce her retirement from the sport. A cryptic tweet by her regarding coronavirus was misinterpreted by several news agencies.
