Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, to attend the 51st G7 Summit, along with leaders from the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, and Italy.
Amid the G7 Summit, a photo of world leaders is going viral on social media (here, here, and here), claiming that PM Modi was missing from the stage and calling it “another diplomatic setback for India.” In this article, let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: The photo suggests that PM Modi was excluded from the stage during the recent G7 Summit in Canada in 2025.
Fact: The viral photo only shows leaders of G7 member countries, not guest leaders. This is the standard protocol followed every year. PM Modi attended the summit as a guest, took part in the outreach session, and was featured in a separate official group photo with the G7 and partner countries. PM Modi was not excluded from the stage during the recent G7 Summit in Canada. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A Google Lens search of the viral photo led us to the media section of the official G7 2025 Summit website, and we found photos featuring the same world leaders at the same location seen in the viral photo, labelled as the official “G7 leaders’ family photo.”

The multimedia section also included photos from the “G7 working session: Global Economic Outlook,” which showed the same set of leaders present in the viral photo. The G7 comprises seven member countries — France, the US, the UK, Germany, Japan, Italy, and Canada, along with the European Union, which is represented by the President of the European Council and the European Commission. Notably, India is not a member of the G7 but was invited to the summit as part of its “international outreach” programme. In addition to India, Canada also invited countries like Australia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Ukraine to the 2025 G7 Summit. This confirms that the viral photo only shows the heads of these G7 member nations.

We found an X post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi dated 17 June 2025, in which he announced his arrival in Calgary, Canada, to attend the G7 Summit. According to reports (here, here), he landed on the evening of 16 June 2025 (Monday, local time).
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi took part in the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit held in Kananaskis on 17 June 2025. He addressed a session on energy security and highlighted the importance of access, affordability, and innovation. Modi thanked Canadian counterpart Mark Carney for the invitation and congratulated the G7 on completing 50 years. He also reiterated India’s strong stand against terrorism and called on G7 leaders to take strict action against those who promote or support it.
We also found an X post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi dated 18 June 2025, in which he shared a photo with other world leaders at the G7 Summit in Canada. The same photo was shared by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on the same day, with the caption: “A collective commitment to addressing global challenges & promoting common values. PM Narendra Modi with the leaders of G7 countries and invited partners.” This photo is also available on the official G7 2025 Summit website, where it is titled “Family photo with outreach partners.”
In an X-post dated 18 June 2025, WION journalist Sidhant Sibal explained that G7 group photos follow a two-day format: Day 1 features only G7 leaders, while Day 2 includes guest leaders—a format also common in summits like SCO, BRICS, and G20. He added that a certain handle is spreading fake news and amplifying misinformation, without understanding this standard practice.
We found that this photo format has been followed in previous years as well, including the 2024 G7 Summit in Italy (here, here), the 2023 Summit in Japan (here, here), and the 2022 Summit in Germany (here, here).

Additionally, we did not find any credible report claiming that PM Modi was denied a place on stage during the 2025 G7 Summit group photo. An incident of such significance would have attracted major media coverage, but there is no evidence of that.
To sum up, PM Modi was not snubbed at the G7 Summit 2025, as the viral photo shows only G7 leaders, not guest leaders.
