Old video of vehicles getting washed away is shared as the recent situation in rain-hit Hyderabad

As Hyderabad received huge rainfall on 13 October 2020 (with some areas receiving more than 20 cm rainfall), a lot of videos and photos are being shared on the internet. While some of them show the actual situation, the others are just picked up from other places & times and shared as recent and related to Hyderabad. A video of a few vehicles getting washed away is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows the situation at Osmangunj in Hyderabad on 13 October 2020. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of vehicles getting washed away at Osmangunj in Hyderabad on 13 October 2020.

Fact: It is an old video. The video is being shared on the internet at least since 25 September 2019. While the original location of the video cannot be confirmed, it can be concluded that it is not related to the recent rains in Hyderabad. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When we searched on the internet about the video in the post, many similar videos were found in the search results. The video was found to be uploaded by multiple users back in 2019 with a similar claim. Some of those old posts can be found here, here and here. Also, it was found that ‘News18 – Telugu’ has posted the same video in September 2019. However, FACTLY could not confirm the location of the video as no further information regarding the video was found. But it can be concluded that it is not related to the recent rains in Hyderabad.
