In the wake of the 26 opposition parties forming the I.N.D.I.A group, a video clip of Aam Admi Party leader Sanjay Singh’s speech on dynastic politics in India, in which he speaks about Sonia Gandhi, Omar Abdullah, Bal Thackeray, MK Stalin, Sharad Pawar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Mulayam Singh Yadav, etc. is being shared on social media. Description of one post that shared this video in Hindi translates to ‘#Sanjay_Singh # AAP with his own beautiful mouth ripped apart the parties of his I.N.D.I.A alliance and #corruption’s _ chieftain #Arvind_Kejriwal was happy.‘ Let’s fact-check and understand the context of this video.

Claim: AAP’s Sanjay Singh rips apart his I.N.D.I.A group parties by criticising their dynastic nature.

Fact: Sanjay Singh did make these remarks, but the video is from November 2022. He made these comments way before the Aam Admi Party joined hands with 25 opposition parties to form the I.N.D.I.A group. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.

To learn more details about the viral clip, we performed a keyword search on the internet, leading us to this video’s original full-length version. Uploaded on Aam Aadmi Party’s official YouTube channel in November 2022, this is a speech given by Sanjay Singh at an event (click here ) in Karanj, Gujarat.

The lines that appear in the viral video start from the 18:24 mark of this original video. Sanjay Singh indeed spoke about the dynastic nature of the parties in India, i.e., Samajwadi Party (Mulayam Singh Yadav), Congress Party (Jawaharlal Nehru), Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), DMK (Karunanidhi) and so on. But this speech was made in November 2022, almost eight months before AAP allied with 25 other opposition parties to form I.N.D.I.A (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). The speech is being shared out of context and shared as if he made this recently, i.e., after joining the I.N.D.I.A group.

To sum up, an old video of AAP leader Sanjay Singh’s comments on dynastic politics is being shared out of context as if they were made after the formation of I.N.D.I.A. group.
