A video is being shared widely on social media with a claim that it shows a tampered EVM in the recently concluded Assembly elections (2022). The video tries to show that the person votes for the BSP on the EVM, but the vote goes to the BJP. Let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.
Claim: Video shows a tampered EVM in the recent Assembly elections (2022).
Fact: The video is not related to the recently concluded Assembly elections (2022). The same video is on the internet at least since May 2019. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE.
When the screenshots of the video were run through Google Reverse Image Search, many similar videos were found in the search results. The same video was found to be on the internet at least since May 2019. Some of those old posts can be seen here and here. So, the video is not related to the recently concluded Assembly elections (2022).
Also, one can see that the person in the video places his fingers on both the BSP and BJP buttons. The person might have actually pressed the BJP button only. However, we could not verify the veracity of the incident in the video. When the same video went viral previously in 2020 as a video related to the Dubbaka by-election in Telangana, FACTLY debunked it, the fact-check article in Telugu can be seen here.
To sum it up, an old video is being shared as proof of a tampered EVM in recent Assembly elections (2022).
