A video through a post is being widely shared on social media claiming that police were beating people in Kanpur during midnight. Let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

Fact: The visuals of police beating people is from 2020 in Mumbra, Maharashtra. The incident happened in Shree Lanka area of Mumbra, where the police resorted to lathi-charge when supporters of two local politicians clashed with each other. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

When reverse image search is done on the screenshots of the video, an old video with similar visuals is found on YouTube. The YouTube video was uploaded on 29 March 2020, which means the video is old, and not a recent one. According to the video report by ‘Hindustani Reporter’, the video is from Kausa, Sree Lanka in Mumbra, Maharashtra.

Couple of news reports have corrected the claim when the video was viral and when shared as though it was from Indore. It was reported that the incident happened in Shree Lanka area of Mumbra, where the police resorted to lathi-charge when supporters of two local politicians clashed with each other.
