Old video from a Bangladesh fight falsely shared as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants marching with spears in Assam’s Goalpara

A video (here, here, here, and here) showing a large group of people carrying long spears is circulating online with the claim that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were marching in Assam’s Goalpara to attack officials and police officers. This is being shared amidst the reports that the Assam government has pushed back three Bangladeshi illegal Immigrants on 3 August 2025 and over 300 in the past few months (here and here). We will fact-check this claim through this article.

Claim: Video shows illegal Bangladeshi immigrants armed with homemade spears preparing to attack law enforcement officials in Assam.

Fact: The visuals are from a violent clash between rival BNP factions in Ashtagram, Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, on 1 July 2025. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To verify this claim, we performed a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral clip. This led to a 1 July 2025 post by Bangladesh-based outlet Jago News 24 reporting on a violent clash in Kishoreganj between factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). This post contained a video that shows a montage from this clash, which also includes a cropped version of the viral video

The same video was posted by a Bangladeshi media outlet, Daily Sun, on 1 July 2025 with a caption that says ‘At least 40 Injured in Clash Between Two BNP Factions.’ Through an additional keyword search, we found multiple news reports (here, here, and here) on this incident from July 2025.

A screenshot from the viral video appeared in a Dhaka Mail article describing a long-standing family and political dispute that turned violent, injuring around 40 people and involving arson and vandalism.

As per these reports (here, here, and here), this incident took place in Abdhullapur village on 1 July 2025. The dispute is reportedly between ‘Union BNP President Kamal Pasha and Kishoreganj District Volunteer Party Joint Convener Farhad Ahmed.’

Further, we found no credible media reports of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants marching in Assam with spears. No Assam police post or official statement mentioned such an incident either.

To sum up, a video from a political clash in Bangladesh is being falsely shared with a communal-spun claim that it shows illegal Bangladeshi immigrants attacking police in Assam.
