A video depicting water gushing out from a road like a fountain has gone viral, initially attributed to Haryana with criticism aimed at the state government. However, the same video is also being circulated with claims linking it to various other states (here, here & here). This article aims to fact-check the claims made in these posts.
Claim: Video showing water gushing out from a road in the BJP-governed state of Haryana.
Fact: These visuals depict an incident of a water pipe burst in Kunnamangalam, Kerala, reported in February 2024, and therefore are unrelated to BJP-governed states. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
These images of water gushing from a road are from an earlier incident in Kerala and did not occur in any BJP-ruled state, as claimed. A reverse image search of screenshots from the viral video led us to a news report from February 2024 that shared similar visuals.
The report indicates that the footage shows water gushing out due to a pipeline burst linked to the Japan drinking water project, occurring along the national highway at the 10th mile of Kunnamangalam in Kerala.
Additional investigation revealed that Malayalam news agencies also covered the same visuals, attributing the incident to Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode (here & here). These reports confirm that the visuals are unrelated to states governed by the BJP.
To sum up, an old video of a pipeline burst in Kerala is falsely linked to BJP-governed states.
