A video (here, here and here) allegedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a large public meeting in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, has garnered a lot of attention on social media. This is being shared with a caption that reads ‘Modi wave in jalpaiguri .’ We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: The video features a massive crowd at PM Modi’s public meeting in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Fact: The video is actually from a Narendra Modi rally held in Kolkata on 3 April 2019. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.
To ascertain the authenticity of the claim, we conducted a reverse image search on select frames from the viral video. This search directed us to the original version (archive) of the clip posted on his personal website’s X handle, @narendramodi_in
The video was uploaded on 3 April 2019 and is explicitly titled to indicate that it was filmed at a rally in Kolkata. This evidence conclusively proves that the visuals are not from the 2024 Jalpaiguri meeting.
Furthermore, the same 2019 footage was found (archive) on the official Bharatiya Janata Party’s YouTube channel and X handle, further reinforcing our findings.
While it is true that PM Modi did host a meeting in Jalpaiguri, the viral video making rounds on social media is unrelated to that event. Footage from PM Modi’s Jalpaiguri visit can be viewed here and here.
To sum up, the video in focus is from PM Narendra Modi’s 2019 rally in Kolkata, not his 2024 meeting in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.
