Claim: Mamata Banerjee offered prayers at a dargah in Nandigram secretly.

Fact: Mamata Banerjee offered prayers at a dargah in Nandigram on 09 March 2021. Multiple news agencies have reported her visit. In fact, Mamata Banerjee’s official Facebook account live-streamed the event. Hence the claim that she offered the prayers secretly is MISLEADING.

Google search with relevant keywords led us to an article that published multiple images of TMC’s election campaign. An image of Mamata Banerjee paying floral tributes in a dargah is also featured in these images. The description of that particular image reads ‘West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visits a dargah, during an election campaign ahead of state assembly polls, in Nandigram. Banerjee will be contesting in the elections from Nandigram’.

Further search led us to a tweet by ANI dated 09 March 2021, which shared images of Mamata Banerjee’s visit to a dargah in Nandigram with a description “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visits Shamshabad Mazar in Nandigram and offers a chadar there”.

Even Mamata Banerjee’s official Facebook account shared the video of her visit to a dargah in Nandigram. The visuals of the video in the post match with that of the video shared on Mamata’s official account. All these establish the fact that Mamata’s visit to a dargah in not maintained a secret, but many news agencies covered the event.

In view of the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, misleading posts like this one are being shared on social media platforms.

To sum it up, Mamata Banerjee’s visit to a dargah in Nandigram was not a secret.
