Claim: Mamata Banerjee: “I want to slap Modi when he comes to West Bengal.”

Fact: Mamata Banerjee didn’t say that she wanted to slap Modi . She said that she wanted to give him a slap of democracy. Hence the claim made in the post is FALSE. 

Not only users on Facebook but also prominent newspapers and channels (India Today, CNN News18, Aaj Tak, Jansatta, Oneindia)  have reported the same that she wanted to slap Modi.

When searched for the news on Google with the keywords ‘Mamatha wanted to slap Modi’, many news articles on this issue can be found in the search results. According to those articles, Mamatha Banerjee at her speech at Purulia said, “Money doesn’t matter to me. That is why when Narendra Modi came to Bengal and accused my party of being Tolabaaz (Toll collector), I wanted to give him a tight slap of democracy.” She did not say that she wanted to slap him.

Even the TMC party gave a clarification on this issue by posting on its official Facebook account the actual words spoken by their chief.
