A video is being shared on social media claiming it shows a recent speech of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressing his concern over the ongoing Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine wars. According to the post, Kim Jong Un voiced concerns about the potential for World War III in the event of Joe Biden’s re-election and expressed his full support for Donald Trump for the 2024 US Presidential Election. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video showing Kim Jong Un’s latest remarks about the ongoing Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine wars and about the upcoming US elections.

Fact: The video mistranslated Kim Jong Un’s old speech at a military parade celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Korean Workers’ Party in 2020. The video is old and unrelated to the ongoing Israel-Palestine or Russia-Ukraine conflicts, as well as the upcoming 2024 US Presidential Election. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video showing similar visuals was found published by ‘The Star’ in October 2020. This news channel published the video with the title, “North Korean leader chokes up during speech amid outpouring of emotion from audience”. The news site reported it is a video clip from Kim Jong Un’s address at a military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the ruling Worker’s Party on 10 October 2020.

As per reports, during his address at a parade marking the 75th anniversary of North Korea’s ruling communist party, Kim Jong Un got emotional while he thanked troops for their sacrifice in responding to natural disasters and helping prevent a health crisis. Kim Jong Un also apologised to North Korean citizens for not living up to their expectations during his speech at the event.

The transcript of Kim Jong Un’s full speech at the military parade celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party can be seen here. During his speech at the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Workers’ Party, Kim Jong Un had never said anything about Joe Biden or Donald Trump or the ongoing Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine conflicts. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post had mistranslated Kim Jong Un’s old speech and falsely linked it to the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.

To sum it up, Kim Jong Un’s old video was mistranslated and shared as his latest remarks on the Israel-Palestine war and the upcoming US Presidential elections.
