Funeral procession from Uttar Pradesh is passed off as Muslims celebrating Iftar in Hyderabad

A video is being shared on social media claiming it to be of Iftar celebrations by Muslims in Hyderabad. The description of the video states that those people who were spreading ‘Gyan’ (knowledge) about Kumbh Mela must also see this video. Let us fact-check the claim being made in the post.

Claim: Video of Muslims celebrating Iftar in Hyderabad flouting COVID-19 norms.

Fact:  The video shared in the post is from Anjuman Muavinul Islam Madarsa in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The large crowd seen in the video have gathered to attend the funeral procession of Maulana Abdul Momin Nadvi. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

Reverse image search on the screenshots of the video led us to a social media post published on 17 April 2021, which mentions that the video is from Anjuman Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Google search with relevant keywords led us to a tweet by UP Tak which had a similar video. The video report states how people have gathered to attend the funeral procession of Maulana Abdul Momin Nadvi flouting COVID-19 norms in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh amidst the rise in COVID-19 cases.

When we searched for images of Anjuman Masjid in Google Maps, we observed that the façade of the building from the video matches with the one found on Google Maps.

To sum it up, funeral procession video from Uttar Pradesh is being passed off as Muslims celebrating Iftar in Hyderabad flouting COVID-19 norms.
