A video a Prime Minister Modi trying his hands on a drum (dhol) during his recent visit to Denmark is being widely circulated calling it a drama and alleging that Modi is the only one doing such a thing. The post compares Modi with Manmohan Singh and claims that Manmohan has never done such a thing in his tenure of ten years as the PM. The Kannada description associated with the video loosely translates to ‘Even though Man Mohan Singh was in power for ten years, he hasn’t done a single drama like this. Modi is a drama master’.  Through this article let’s fact-check the claim made in the post.

Claim: Manmohan Singh did not take part in any celebrations as Modi did in recent Europe tour.

Fact: The viral visuals are from Denmark, where Modi took part in the celebrations organised by the Indian diaspora. However, contrary to the claim made in the post, even Manmohan Singh also tried his hand in celebrations on a few occasions in the past. Also, politicians or any other leaders, attending any event or gathering as a guest usually take part in the celebrations and is quite common. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

Prime Minister Modi recently had been on a three-nation Europe tour. During this visit, Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora with celebrations in Indian style. During one such celebration in Denmark, Modi even tried his hand on drums (dhol), the viral video shared in the post is from these celebrations in Denmark.

However, leaders taking part in such celebrations is quite common. Usually, guests, be it the politicians or any other leaders, attending any event or gathering take part in the celebrations.

Further, Modi is not the only one who took part in such celebrations. In fact, contrary to the claim made in the post, Manmohan Singh had also tried his hand on a few occasions in the past. Goggle search with relevant keywords yielded us a few visuals (here & here) of him taking part in such celebrations.

These visuals show Manmohan Singh playing drums on different occasions, once in 2006 during a cultural festival of North-East and the other in 2012, during the silver jubilee celebrations of the Zonal Cultural Centers. These establish the fact that leaders taking part in celebrations is quite common while the frequency or the number of times they participate in such celebrations might vary from person to person.

To sum it up, even Manmohan Singh tried his hand at celebrations on a few occasions in the past.
