A video circulating on social media claims it shows visuals of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge expressing his frustration at the crowd for making Narendra Modi slogans during his speech at a public meeting. The video allegedly shows Mallikarjun Kharge being upset with the “Modi, Modi” slogans from the public and was seen asking people to leave the meeting if they were uninterested in his speech. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of Mallikarjun Kharge expressing frustration towards the crowd for making Narendra Modi slogans during his speech at a Congress meeting.

Fact: The post shared an edited clip from the original video of Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech delivered at the Congress meeting in Kalwakurthy, Telangana. The original video does not show the crowd making “Modi, Modi” slogans during Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

When we searched for the video using relevant keywords, we found similar visuals in a video published by the ‘Times Now’ news channel on 27 November 2023. The news channel reported that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had lost his cool and shouted at the public during an election campaign rally in Telangana.

On searching for further sources using relevant keywords, we found that the post shared a video clip from Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech during the Congress meeting, held as part of the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections campaign, in Kalwakurthy. The official YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress published the video of Mallikarjun Khharge’s full speech at the Kalwakurthy public rally.

From 20:18 minutes of the video, when Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the government regarding unfulfilled election promises made to farmers, a few people in the crowd interrupted Kharge’s speech while making some slogans, which are unclear. Responding to public slogans, from 21:06 minutes of the video, Mallikarjun Kharge was seen saying-“Sit silently, if you don’t want to listen, get out. Don’t talk like that. Didn’t you people know that a leader of the All-India Congress Party was speaking? You are saying whatever is coming to your mouth. Listen if you want to, otherwise, go away” (when translated to English from Hindi). However, in the original video, the crowd was not seen making “Modi, Modi” slogans as seen in the viral video shared in the post. From all these pieces of evidence, it can be concluded that the video shared in the post was created by manipulating the audio from the original video clip of Kharge’s speech delivered at the Congress meeting in Kalwakurthy, Telangana.

To sum it up, an edited video is shared as the visuals of the crowd making Modi slogans during Mallikarjun Kharge’s speech at a Congress meeting.
