A video (here, here, and here) featuring Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is being widely shared online where he appears to be criticizing PM Narendra Modi and alleging that the ruling party’s purpose is to celebrate the pain and problems of people in the country. Let’s verify the authenticity of the video.

Fact: This video has been altered with a manipulated audio created using AI voice cloning technology. Notably, the original video does not feature any criticism aimed at Modi’s government. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of the viral video has led us to the original set of videos (here & here) published on the official X account of Asian News International (ANI) on 14 April 2024. In these videos (archive), Ranveer Singh, during his visit to Varanasi, spoke about his devotion towards Lord Shiva, his experience of visiting the city, PM Modi’s vision to celebrate the rich cultural heritage, history, and legacy of Varanasi along with developmental initiatives. Notably, there is no indication of any criticism towards the government as depicted in the viral video.
Moreover, upon closer scrutiny of the viral video, discrepancies in lip sync are apparent, implying potential tampering. This finding is reinforced by AI voice analysis tools such as Hive Moderator, which identify the existence of an artificially created voice in the viral video. Ranveer Singh is yet to respond to this issue.
