On 06 December 2025, coinciding with the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a mosque, which he claims will be a “Babri Masjid-style” structure, in Murshidabad’s Beldanga area in West Bengal (here, here, and here).
Amid this, a video showing police using tear gas shells and water cannons on a large crowd is going viral on social media (here, here, and here). It is being shared with the claim that the visuals show police action against people who had gathered to support the alleged construction of the Babri Masjid in West Bengal. Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

Claim: The video shows police using tear gas shells and water cannons on people who had gathered to support the construction of the Babri Masjid in West Bengal.
Fact: The viral video has no link to the Babri Masjid issue in West Bengal. It shows a November 2025 protest by primary school teachers in Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh, where police used tear gas, sound grenades, and water cannons during a clash. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of key frames from the viral video led us to several social media posts (here, here) from the second week of November 2025 featuring the same visuals. These posts were uploaded much before the 06 December 2025 event, where a foundation stone was reportedly laid for the Babri Masjid in West Bengal. According to the description in those posts, the visuals are from Dhaka’s Shahbag area and show an attack on primary school teachers. The posts also mention that the teachers did not block Shahbag; they were holding a peaceful rally with police cooperation.

A Google search using relevant keywords led us to multiple media reports covering this incident with matching visuals (here, here, and here). According to these reports, primary school teachers from various districts in Dhaka were protesting to press for their demands. As they marched, a clash broke out between the protesters and the police. To control the situation, police used tear gas, sound grenades, and water cannons, resulting in around 200 people being injured. The reports state that government school teachers held nationwide protests on 09 November 2025, demanding a salary revision, among other things. When the protesters moved towards Shahbag to press their demands, the police dispersed the rally, leading to several injuries.

We also traced the exact location seen in the viral video and identified it as Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

To sum up, an unrelated Bangladesh protest video is falsely shared as police action at the Babri Masjid foundation event in West Bengal.
