An old video of fire explosion in Assam’s Guwahati is shared as that from UP’s Barabanki

Video of a fire explosion is being widely shared on social media claiming that it shows Gas cylinder blast at Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a gas cylinder blast in UP’s Barabanki.

Fact: Video shows fire accident in Bangagarh area of Guwahati, Assam. On 20 August 2022, the fire was triggered by a cylinder blast that occurred inside the shop located under the Bhangagarh flyover. Fire brigade reached the location immediately to douse the fire and no causalities were reported. However, no such fire accidents were reported in Barabanki recently. Hence the claim made in the post is MISLEADING

First, we searched the internet to check if there is any such accident reported from Barabanki but no such incident was reported. Then, we ran a reverse image search using the key frames extracted from the viral video. Several users on Twitter posted the same video in August 2022 saying that cylinder blast happened in Bhangagarh, Guwahati on 20 August 2022. These posts can be seen here and here.

Taking a cue from this, we searched for news reports regarding this incident. India Today, Guwahati plus, One India and Northeast Live reported his accident. The comparison of visuals from viral video with that of the news reports confirms that both are same.

According to these reports, on 20 August 2022, a massive fire broke out at a shop in Bhangagarh area of Guwahati, Assam. The blaze was triggered by a cylinder blast that occurred inside the shop located under the Bhangagarh flyover. Fire brigade reached the location immediately to douse the fire and no causalities were reported.

To sum it up, this video shows fire explosion in Assam’s Guwahati. No such incident was reported in Barabanki recently.
