An old video of a clash between two groups from the same religion is shared with a false communal angle

A video (here, here and here) circulating on social media shows a conflict between two individuals, with the accompanying claim that it shows a Muslim family being attacked. We fact-check this claim through this article.

An archived version of this can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a recent incident where a Muslim family is being attacked in India.

Fact: The video in question is not recent and shows a 2020 incident in Uttar Pradesh. Both parties involved in the conflict were Muslim, and the conflict stemmed from their mutual issues. The local police at the time clarified these points when the video initially went viral. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

The authenticity of the video was verified by performing a reverse image search on a few of its keyframes. This search yielded an older post from 2020 with the same video, indicating the video is not from a recent event.

Underneath the 2020 video, Siddharth Nagar police commented, explaining the situation and the measures taken, including filing an FIR (here) against those involved. This information further confirmed the video’s origin and context.

When this video first went viral, it was shared with a claim (according to police) that it depicted individuals from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) assaulting a Muslim family. Siddharth Nagar police debunked this by clarifying that both parties involved in the conflict were from the Muslim community and the conflict was a result of internal issues between them. Even the FIR mentions both the accused and the victims as Muslim.

To sum up, the two groups in the viral video belong to the Muslim community.
