An old, unrelated video is falsely shared as showing dollars found in a Punjab house during the August 2025 floods

Since early August 2025, Punjab and Haryana have been experiencing heavy rainfall. As a result, over 50 lives have been lost in Punjab alone, and the Army is engaged in rescue efforts. Further, farmlands across both states have suffered extensive damage. Relief is pouring in from all sections of society, including celebrities, religious organisations, and political parties (here, here, here, and here).

Amid this, a video is circulating on social media showing a man pulling out stacks of notes from the mud (here, here, and here). The post claims that the video is from Punjab, showing dollars found buried in a house during the floods. The video is accompanied by an audio (translated from Hindi) saying, “These are the U.S. dollars earned by the people of Punjab, now found buried under the mud. These are American dollars; no one can stand against the wrath of God.” Let’s verify the claim made in the post in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows dollars found buried in a house in Punjab during the August 2025 floods.

Fact: The video is unrelated to the August 2025 floods in Punjab. It predates the floods and was uploaded in July 2025 on the social media handle of Galaxy Restore, which regularly posts videos showing bundles of notes, mobile phones, wallets, gold jewellery, and other valuables being found buried in soil or garbage heaps. Additionally, no media reports or credible information confirm that dollars were found buried in a house in Punjab during the August 2025 floods. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords but found no media reports or credible information confirming that dollars were found buried in a house in Punjab during the August 2025 floods.

We then performed a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video, which led us to the same video uploaded on the Facebook page of Galaxy Restore on 29 July 2025. The page’s “About” section listed an address in Thailand and a mobile number with the country code.

We traced the Galaxy Restore’s TikTok and YouTube accounts. The viral video appeared on their TikTok account, tagged with the location Los Angeles, USA. Additionally, the videos on TikTok and Facebook feature a woman speaking in English, indicating that the audio in the viral video has been manipulated.

Many other similar videos (here, here, and here) on both platforms show bundles of notes, mobile phones, wallets, gold jewellery, and other valuables being found buried in soil or garbage heaps. These videos appear to be deliberately made for social media rather than depicting any real incident.

We also reached out to Galaxy Restore seeking clarification on where the video was recorded and whether the content they post on social media is real or scripted. We will update the article once we receive a response from them.

Though we could not independently verify the exact location where this video was recorded, available evidence makes it clear that it is not related to the August 2025 Punjab floods and has been available on the internet since July 2025.

To sum up, an old, unrelated video is falsely shared as showing dollars found in a Punjab house during the August 2025 floods.
