A video (here, here, and here) is being shared on social media claiming that it shows illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal. In this video, we can see a mob walking on a road, shouting slogans as they hold sticks, footwear, and broomsticks.

This video is being shared on social media in the context of the Election Commission launching Phase 2 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in 9 states and 3 UTs, including West Bengal, on 4 November 2025 (here and here). We will fact-check this claim through this article.

You can see the archived version of this claim here.

Claim: Video of Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshis protesting against Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.

Fact: This video was shot in Bangladesh and has no connection to India. It was available on the internet from 15 September 2025, prior to the commencement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in West Bengal on 4 November 2025. Hence, the claim made in this post is False.

To verify the claim, we searched the internet using some keyframes from the viral video and did not find any reports claiming that this video shows a recent protest by Rohingyas and Illegal Bangladeshis in West Bengal.

However, through this search, we found the same video in a few social media posts dated 15 September 2025 (here, here). In other words, the video was on the internet much before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process began in West Bengal on 4 November 2025 and before the Election Commission announced Phase-2 of SIR on 27 October 2025.

A high-quality version of this video was uploaded on a Facebook page of a person named ‘Biplob Biplob’ on 15 September 2025. The description of this video in Bengali translates to ‘Video footage of today’s movement’. Biplob states on his Facebook page that he is a resident of Faridpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Speaking to India Today about this video, Biplob said that the video was shot in an area called Bhanga in the Faridpur district of Bangladesh. He told India Today that protests had occurred in the Bhanga Upazila against the decision made by the Bangladesh Election Commission regarding the constituency demarcation.

Using this clue, we performed a keyword search on the internet and found Bangladeshi news articles about people of Bhanga protesting against the decision taken by the Bangladesh Election Commission on the constituency demarcation in September 2025 (here, here, here, and here).

Additionally, a fact-check published by Bangladeshi media outlet Prothom Alo debunking the viral claim stated that the location where the video was shot was the Dhaka-Khulna Highway, opposite Mansurabad High School in Bhanga Upazila.

We then looked up this location on Google Maps, and it became clear to us that the viral video was filmed there.

To sum up, an old and unrelated video shot in Bangladesh is falsely shared as visuals of Rohingyas and illegal Bangladeshis protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, India.
