Amidst the terrorist attack on 22 April 2025, in which tourists were targeted in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, a video showing a media interview of a man lying on a hospital bed is circulating on social media (here and here). The video is being shared with the claim that the man is a terrorist who was caught alive by the Indian Army after the Pahalgam attack. Let’s verify the claim made in the post through this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows a media interview of a terrorist who was caught alive by the Indian Army after the Pahalgam attack.

Fact: The viral video is from an incident that took place in August 2022 and is unrelated to the Pahalgam terror attack. It shows Tabarak Hussain, a Pakistani terrorist caught alive by the Indian Army after foiling an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district, Jammu & Kashmir. Hussain, who sustained a bullet injury during the attempt, was undergoing treatment at an Army medical facility after being critically injured. He later died of cardiac arrest on 03 September 2022. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to the same video, published as a short on the Aaj Tak YouTube channel on 25 August 2022. The video was captioned, “Terrorist from Pakistan has revealed secrets about the Pakistan Army.” This confirms that the video has no connection to the Pahalgam terrorist attack that took place on 22 April 2025, as it predates the incident.

To gather more information, we used relevant keywords and found the full video in a report published on the Aaj Tak website on 25 August 2022. According to the report, the Indian Army foiled two infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, Jammu & Kashmir. In these operations, one Pakistani terrorist was caught alive, while two others died in an explosion. Soldiers stationed in the Jhangar sector of Nowshera spotted the movement of 2–3 terrorists along the LoC in the early hours of 21 August 2022. The injured terrorist was admitted to a hospital. When asked why he was sent from Pakistan to India, the caught terrorist revealed that he was associated with the ISI and had received 30,000 Pakistani Rupees for the mission.

We also came across multiple reports from August 2022 covering this incident (here, here, and here). According to these reports, the terrorist caught near the Line of Control in the Jammu region revealed key details about the involvement of a serving Pakistani Army officer in planning attacks on Indian soil. Identified as Tabarak Hussain, a resident of Sabzkot village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Kotli district, he was undergoing treatment at an Army medical facility after being critically injured. As he recovered, Hussain told the media that he was sent along with three to four other terrorists by a Pakistani Army officer, Colonel Yunus Choudhary, to carry out a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attack on Indian soldiers. While Hussain sustained a bullet injury during the attempt, his accomplices managed to escape. He later died of cardiac arrest on 03 September 2022.

To sum up, an August 2022 video showing a media interview of a terrorist caught alive by the Indian Army is being falsely shared as if he was caught after the recent 2025 Pahalgam attack.
