A viral collage (here, here, here, and here) on social media claims to show ancient spaceships discovered in India. Users sharing this collage claim that Indian archaeologists have allegedly unearthed these spaceships in an Indian village recently. We fact-check this claim through this article.
Claim: Photos of ancient spaceships unearthed by archaeologists in India.
Fact: These are AI-generated images. There are no credible reports of Indian archaeologists unearthing any such ancient spaceships. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.
To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a keyword search on the internet to check if there were any news reports or other credible reports about such a discovery from India. However, we found none.
The Archaeological Survey of India also did not release any official statement on such a discovery. At the beginning of the description of the viral post, it was mentioned that such a discovery happened in Antarctica. We searched the internet to check if such a discovery was made in Antarctica recently and found no such reports.
Looking at the viral photos closely, we observed a few similarities with some older images (unearthing of ancient skulls and phones) that we debunked in the past (here and here). They were AI-generated images that were shared as real images of archaeological findings.
To verify if these photos were also AI-generated images, we ran them through multiple AI content detection tools like Hive and Sight engine. The analysis determined these tools as images generated by Artificial Intelligence tools. Hive’s report stated that the images are 92.4% likely to be AI-generated. Sight Engine said that these are 99% AI-generated images.
During our research, we also found an article that seems to be the source for these viral images. The article was published by Onliepaati, a website that publishes conspiracy theory-based articles. Onliepaati stated in this article that this discovery of ancient spaceships in India seems like a rumour.
To sum up, AI-generated images are shared as real photos of ancient spaceships of earthlings discovered in India.
