To verify the viral claim, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video which led us to a video uploaded by a verified Instagram page named ‘Tripscout’ on 17 February 2024. The Instagram video contains visuals similar to those in the viral video clip. According to the description, these visuals are related to the ‘Festival of San Fermín,’ which is held annually in Pamplona, Spain, and is a vibrant testament to Spanish culture and tradition. Pamplona is the capital city of the Navarre province in Spain.
A YouTube channel named Pamplona Fiesta also uploaded the same video on 02 January 2024. According to the video’s title, it shows the opening ceremony, called the Chupinazo, for the Week of the Running of the Bulls at the ‘Festival of San Fermin’ in Pamplona, Navarre, Spain. Another Instagram account, @pamplona_fiesta, also posted the same video, stating that the visuals are related to the opening ceremony of the San Fermin festival, showing people gathered near Pamplona’s City Hall.
We then conducted a relevant keyword search to find more details about the ‘Festival of San Fermin’ and found several news articles (here, here, and here) about the event. According to these articles, the festival is celebrated from 06 to 14 July every year, with a key highlight being the ‘Running of the Bulls’ (here, here).
We then geolocated Pamplona’s City Hall on Google Maps. By comparing the visuals in the video clip with those of Pamplona’s City Hall, it is evident that the viral clip features Pamplona’s City Hall and is related to the ‘Festival of San Fermin.’ More videos related to the ‘Festival of San Fermin’ featuring Pamplona’s City Hall can be seen here.
