A photograph allegedly capturing an intimate moment of Jawaharlal Nehru with a British woman is making rounds on social media. Let’s verify this claim through this fact-checking article.
Claim: The photograph is an intimate real-life capture of Jawaharlal Nehru and a British woman.
Fact: Contrary to the viral claim, the photograph is not a real-life capture but a still from a London-based theatre play, ‘Drawing the Line,’ produced by Hampstead Theatre. Therefore, the claim made in the post is False.
To determine the validity of the claim associated with the alleged photograph of Nehru, we undertook a reverse image search. This search led us to the Hampstead Theatre’s official website and the original photograph.
Consequently, we found that the viral image is, in fact, a desaturated and cropped version of an original photograph associated with the theatre play, ‘Drawing the Line.’
The play, directed by Howard Davies, is set during the 1947 partition of India and presents a storyline revolving around Cyril Radcliffe, tasked with marking the border dividing the Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan. Obviously, the man in the photograph is not Jawaharlal Nehru but Silas Carson, an actor who portrayed Nehru in the theatre play.
To sum up, the photograph does not depict an intimate real-life moment of Jawaharlal Nehru. Instead, it is still captured from a theatre play, ‘Drawing the Line.’
