A video (here and here) in which a woman puts a toddler inside a refrigerator is doing the rounds on social media. It is claimed that the woman is suffering from a condition named ‘Phonix firojation syndrome.’ It is alleged that people suffering from this condition forget everything while using a cell phone. We fact-check this claim through this article.

An archived version of this post can be found here.

Claim: This video clip shows CCTV footage of a woman putting her child inside a refrigerator.

Fact: This is a scripted video made for educational and entertainment purposes. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

To check the veracity of the viral claim, we performed a reverse image search on a few of its keyframes, which led us to the original full-length version of the viral video. This was uploaded on a Facebook page named ‘IdeasFactory.’

IdeasFactory provided a disclaimer at the end of the video and also mentioned in the video’s description that it was made for educational and entertainment purposes only.

They also mentioned that their page features scripted dramas and parodies. You can notice this on their page where they uploaded plenty of such scripted videos.

Furthermore, we searched the internet for a disease or condition known as ‘Phonix firojation syndrome.’ which was mentioned in the viral post. This search did not yield any credible information to prove the existence of such a condition.

However, we learned (here and here) that there is one condition related to phones and humans known as ‘Nomophobia’ in which ‘ a person experiences fear or anxiety about not having mobile phone connectivity. It can lead to agitation, changes in breathing, and other symptoms.’

To sum up, this video in which a woman keeps a toddler in a fridge is scripted, not real CCTV footage.
