A video of a child hitting his mother with a cricket bat has gone viral on social media. Netizens are sharing this video with a claim that the child hit his mother because she did not let him use a mobile phone. We fact-check this claim through this article.

You can find an archived version of this post here.

Claim: This video shows a child hitting his mother with a cricket bat for not letting him use a mobile phone.

Fact: This is a scripted video created by a Facebook page called ‘Ideas Factory.’ They upload scripted videos on social media to raise awareness among public. The original version of the viral clip contains a disclaimer that this video was made for entertainment purposes only. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

During the process of verifying this video, we found a post with the same video on Facebook (archived post). The description of this video reads, ‘Watch more original videos by: Sanjjanaa Galrani’.

Sanjjnaa Galrani is a film actress who uploads scripted videos in a format that resembles the viral video on her Facebook page (here, here). Sometimes, these videos are uploaded by tagging a page called ‘Ideas Factory.’ ‘Ideas Factory’ also uploads scripted videos they make to create awareness among people. In the past, when scripted videos uploaded by Sanjjanaa Galrani went viral, falsely claiming that they were true incidents, we fact-checked them.

Suspecting that this viral video may also be a scripted video uploaded by Sanjjanaa Galrani, we searched her page for that video but could not find it. However, we found the same video (archived version) on the ‘Ideas Factory’ Facebook page, which they have now deleted.

Interestingly, they also filmed another scripted video (archived version) at the same location seen in the viral video and uploaded it on their page. The TV, the treadmill, the shelf, and the painting on the wall are all featured in the viral video.

D-intent Data, a fact-checking page on X, also uploaded a screenshot of the original video posted by ‘Ideas Factory’ on ‘X,’ with a description saying that this video was made just for entertainment. Tamil fact-checking network, ‘Admin Media,’ has also published a fact-check article stating that this video is fake. We have contacted ‘Ideas Factory’ for more information on this video, and this article will be updated once we receive their response.

To sum up, a scripted video of a woman beaten by a child with a cricket bat is being falsely shared as the video of a real incident.
