A March 2022 video of a political clash is falsely shared as an Israeli minister admitting to underestimating Iran in the June 2025 conflict

Amid the ongoing Israel–Iran conflict, a video (here, here, and here) showing a group of journalists surrounding a man during what appears to be a media briefing is going viral. In the video, a man wearing a Jewish cap (kippah) interrupts and shouts at the speaker, leading to a heated argument. The situation escalates, prompting security to intervene. The video is being shared with the claim that an Israeli citizen questioned his minister, asking, “Why did you guys provoke Iran?” to which the minister allegedly replied, “We had no idea about his missile strength.” Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

The archived post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows an Israeli citizen confronting his minister over provoking Iran, with the minister admitting they underestimated Iran’s missile strength.

Fact: The video dates back to March 2022 and shows a political confrontation between Israeli politicians Omer Barlev and Itamar Ben Gvir during a visit to the site of a terror attack in Hadera. It is unrelated to the ongoing June 2025 Israel–Iran conflict. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to multiple Israeli media reports from March 2022 featuring the same visuals (here, here), confirming that the video is old and unrelated to the ongoing June 2025 Israel–Iran conflict. According to reports, on 27 March 2022, two Arab Israeli gunmen, believed to be inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS), opened fire at a bus stop in Hadera, killing two 19-year-old Border Police officers and injuring others before being shot dead by undercover police. Later that evening, Public Security Minister Omer Barlev visited the scene for a security briefing, where far-right MK Itamar Ben Gvir confronted him, accusing the government of weakness and shouting, “You should be ashamed!” Barlev replied, “You’re nothing! You should be ashamed!” The clash occurred during a right-wing protest with chants of “Death to Arabs,” reflecting the heightened political tensions amid a wave of terror attacks.

Omer Barlev is the leader of the Labour Party, while Itamar Ben Gvir heads the Otzma Yehudit party and currently serves as Israel’s National Security Minister. Ben Gvir accused Barlev of being a failed minister and said he should be ashamed. In response, Barlev blamed Ben Gvir for fuelling public anger. The argument escalated to the point where security personnel had to intervene. Ben Gvir has previously levelled several allegations against Barlev.

To sum up, a March 2022 video of a political clash is falsely shared as an Israeli minister admitting to underestimating Iran in the June 2025 conflict.
