A fake graphic is being shared on social media, claiming it is a notice released by Sri Harimandir Saheb

A graphic purporting to be a notice from Sri Harimandir Sahib (also known as the Golden Temple) condemning Babbar Khalsa International and other organisations for promoting Khalistani terrorism has been circulating on social media sites. Here is a fact-check of the claim.

Claim: Sri Harimandir Sahib released a notice condemning Babbar Khalsa International and other organisations promoting Khalistani terrorism.

Fact: We did not find any such notice on the official social media handles and the website of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the organisation that manages the Gurudwaras in India, including Sri Harimandir Sahib. This suggests that the graphic being circulated is not authentic. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

In order to examine the facts behind this shared graphic, we initiated by inspecting the official website and the social media handles (here) of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the body that manages the Gurudwaras across India. Our investigation revealed that no such notice existed on their official website or any of the social media handles. This strongly implies that the graphic being circulated does not originate from an authentic source and is likely fabricated.

We further learned that an official of SGPC spoke to ‘The Quint’, where he denied the release of such a notice and affirmed that if at all they release any messages, that would be shared on their official handles.

To sum up, the purported notice circulating on social media claiming to be from Sri Harimandir Sahib is false. The SGPC, which handles official communications for Gurudwaras, has no such notice on its website or any social media handles.
