A video (here, here and here) is going viral on social media showing an army personnel returning home, where his family members receive him with a grand welcome, laying out a red carpet and saluting him. It is being claimed that he is returning after participating in Operation Sindoor. Let’s find out the truth behind this claim.

Claim: The viral video shows an Indian Army soldier being welcomed by his family after returning from Operation Sindoor.
Fact: The video is unrelated to Operation Sindoor. It dates back to August 2023 and shows a Sikh soldier being warmly welcomed by his family after returning home from training. Hence, the claim is MISLEADING.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded to the YouTube channel Brut India on 17 August 2023. The caption read, “This is how a soldier was welcomed by his family after he came back to his village.” This incident predates the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor by nearly two years.
We also found that Anand Mahindra shared the same video on 16 August 2023, with the caption: “If you want to understand the emotional connect between Indians and our Jawans who protect us, look no further than this video… I salute this family.” This further indicates that the video is old and unrelated to the recent Operation Sindoor or Pahalgam incident.
Further research led us to multiple news reports (here, here and here) from August 2023 confirming that the viral video shows a Sikh soldier receiving a grand welcome from his family upon returning home after training. The video gained widespread attention during India’s 77th Independence Day celebrations and was initially shared by Sandeep Thapar, an army veteran, before being widely circulated. It shows the soldier being welcomed with a red carpet, saluting his mother, touching her feet, and being showered with petals, highlighting a heartfelt family moment.

To sum up, the video showing an army personnel being welcomed by his family is not related to Operation Sindoor; it is an old video.
