A video clip (here, here, here, here, and here) showing imprisoned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi being escorted by authorities is being widely circulated on social media platforms, along with the claim that he has been granted bail. Through this article, let us fact-check the claim made in the post.

The archived version of this post can be found here.

Claim: The video shows gangster Lawrence Bishnoi walking out of jail on bail in November 2025.

Fact: The viral video actually dates back to February 2020 and shows Bishnoi being presented before the court in Fazilka, Punjab. Lawrence Bishnoi remains in jail, and there are no credible reports indicating that he has been granted bail recently. He has been in Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, since 2023. According to reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) renewed an order in August 2025 restricting the movement of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, for another year. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.

We conducted a relevant keyword search to determine whether gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has recently been granted bail. However, the search yielded no credible news reports confirming that he has been released on bail. If Lawrence Bishnoi had indeed been granted bail, it would undoubtedly have received widespread media coverage.

According to a report published by ‘The Indian Express’ on 20 November 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs extended its directive in August 2025, restricting the movement of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, for another year. This order means he cannot be taken outside the jail, and any court appearances or investigation-related procedures must take place through video conferencing or within the jail premises.

We noticed that the viral clip included the name of a news channel, “Punjabvarta.com”, in the top-right corner, along with a location tag in the top-left corner that read “Fazilka”, which is a district in Punjab.

To gather more details about the viral video, we conducted a Google reverse image search using keyframes from the clip. This search led us to an extended version of the video shared on a YouTube channel named ‘Living Fazilka’ on 24 February 2020. Further searching led us to a longer version of the footage uploaded by ‘RB Live Media’ on the same date. According to the descriptions of these videos, the clip is from 24 February 2020 and shows Bishnoi being produced before the Fazilka court in Punjab.

We also found a video report shared on the official YouTube channel of News18 Punjab on 24 February 2020, which featured similar footage of Bishnoi at the Fazilka court. According to this report, Bishnoi was produced before a Bench in connection with an attempted murder case. He was acquitted in that case; however, Lawrence Bishnoi remained in jail.

Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been imprisoned since 2014 and faces numerous criminal charges, including extortion, murder, and drug trafficking. These charges also encompass several high-profile murders, notably those of Punjabi singer-rapper Sidhu Moosewala and Mumbai political leader Baba Siddique. He has been transferred between several jails due to various cases and security considerations, including Tihar Jail in Delhi, and has been lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, since August 2023 (here, here, and here).

Recently, on 19 November 2025, Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence’s younger brother, was brought back from the United States of America to India and handed over to the National Investigation Agency. Anmol is wanted in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique, a shooting incident at actor Salman Khan’s residence, the assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, and several other allegations. He had been absconding since 2022 (here, here, and here).

To sum it up, a 2020 video of Lawrence Bishnoi being presented before the Fazilka court in Punjab is being shared with the false claim that he has been released on bail.
