The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially announced the schedule for the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. Voting will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase on 06 November 2025 and the second on 11 November 2025. The counting of votes is scheduled for 14 November 2025.
Amid this, a video showing a man being welcomed with a garland of shoes is going viral on social media (here, here, and here) with claims that he is a BJP leader from Bihar who was greeted with a garland of shoes ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

Claim: The video shows a BJP leader being welcomed with a garland of shoes in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.
Fact: The video does not show a BJP leader in Bihar being welcomed with a garland of shoes ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. The clip dates back to 19 November 2018, when a man greeted BJP MLA Dilip Shekhawat with a garland of shoes during his campaign in Nagda, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, for the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. Multiple reports from October 2025 noted public resistance to leaders during campaign visits in Bihar over local issues, but the video in question is unrelated to the current Bihar elections. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to an X post by ANI dated 20 November 2018 featuring the same clip, confirming that the video is old and predates the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections by several years. The post stated that a man greeted BJP MLA and candidate Dilip Shekhawat with a garland of shoes in Nagada, Madhya Pradesh, on 19 November 2018.
Taking clues from the X post, we used relevant keywords and found multiple media reports from November 2018 (here, here, and here) that covered the incident. According to these reports, the incident took place in Nagda, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where BJP candidate Dilip Shekhawat was confronted by a young man in Khedavada village during his campaign tour for the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
Further, multiple media reports (here, here, and here) stated that during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, several leaders from both the ruling party and the opposition faced public resistance during campaign visits, as locals voiced concerns over unfulfilled promises, rising prices, unemployment, and poor infrastructure, indicating growing voter frustration.
To sum up, a 2018 video of a BJP leader being welcomed with a garland of shoes in M.P. is shared, falsely linking it to Bihar.
