On 17 August 2025, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Sasaram, Bihar, a 16-day march covering over 1,300 km across more than 20 districts of the state. The march was launched against the backdrop of the Congress’s accusations of “vote chori” against the ECI and the INDIA Bloc’s opposition to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. The campaign will conclude with a rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on 01 September 2025 (here, here, and here).
Amid this, a video (here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing an aerial view of a street packed with thousands of people, claimed to be from Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. Let’s check the truth behind this video.
Claim: The viral aerial-view video showing thousands of people on the streets is from Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
Fact: The video is not from Bihar. The same video was available online at least since 26 June 2025, and the footage clearly shows the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Media reports confirm that the Jagannath Rath Yatra took place on 26–27 June 2025, which predates Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded on 26 June 2025 by Aarambh TV. This upload predates Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra. The video was titled “The Grand Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath Begins | Aarambh TV”, clearly indicating that it shows the Rath Yatra from Puri Jagannath Temple, not from Bihar.
In the viral video, the famous Jagannath Temple can be seen. A side-by-side comparison of the viral footage with an image of the temple from its official website confirms that the video is indeed from Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.
Additionally, a keyword search with a date filter shows that the Jagannath Yatra took place between 12 June and 27 June 2025, with the main Rath Yatra held on 26-27 June, as reported by multiple media outlets (here and here). This confirms that the viral video is from the Jagannath Rath Yatra held in June 2025 and is not related to Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra.
To sum up, a video of the Jagannath Temple Rath Yatra rally from Odisha is being falsely shared as footage from Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
