Bihar elections are approaching, campaigns are heating up, and political parties are preparing to finalise and announce their candidates (here and here). Amid this, a video (here, here and here) has gone viral on social media showing RJD leader Seema Kushwaha sharing the stage with LJP leader and union minister Chirag Paswan. It is being claimed that she rejected a seat in the RJD and is now seeking support from Chirag Paswan for a ticket. Let’s find out the truth behind this video.
Claim: The viral video shows RJD leader Seema Kushwaha approaching union minister Chirag Paswan to seek a ticket for the Bihar elections after the RJD denied her a seat in 2025.
Fact: The video is old and from February 2023, showing Seema Kushwaha attending the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Martyr Inspector Virendra Kumar Paswan along with Chirag Paswan. It is unrelated to the upcoming Bihar elections, and RJD has not officially announced any candidates yet. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
To find the truth, we conducted a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube on 08 February 2023, with the caption “Chirag Paswan and Seema Kushwaha.” This indicates that the video is old and not related to the upcoming Bihar elections.
A keyword search with a date filter further led us to photographs of the same event posted on the official Facebook page of the Lok Janshakti Party on 04 February 2023. In these images, Chirag Paswan and Seema Kushwaha are wearing the same outfits as in the viral video, and the same person in a blue kurta can be seen sitting beside them. This confirms that the viral video and the event are from the same occasion. According to the Facebook post, the event was the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Martyr Inspector Virendra Kumar Paswan at Son Dihra, Rohtas, where Chirag Paswan, National President of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), addressed a large gathering.
A side-by-side comparison of the viral video and the event photographs clearly shows that both are from the same occasion. The people, outfits, and background elements perfectly match, confirming that the viral video is from the February 2023 event.
Further research led us to several news reports about the same event, including different videos of the viral clip captured from various angles. All these confirm that the footage is from the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Martyr Inspector Virendra Kumar Paswan.
Additionally, as of today (October 15), RJD has not officially announced its candidates for the Bihar elections. Although possible candidate lists are circulating online, nothing has been confirmed.
To sum up, the video of Seema Kushwaha attending a 2023 event with Chirag Paswan is falsely shared as her approaching him for a Bihar election ticket in 2025.
