A video is being shared on social media claiming it is the visuals of a youth who died after falling in the Aharbal waterfall in Jammu and Kashmir. Let’s verify the claim made in the post.

Claim: Video of a youth who fell into the Aharbal waterfall and lost his life in Jammu and Kashmir.

Fact: The video shared in the post shows a youth who drowned in the overflowing Arasinagundi waterfall in Udupi, Karnataka. While a man did lose his life after falling into the Aharbal waterfall recently in Kashmir, the video shared in the post show the visuals of another youth who was swept away near Arasinagundi waterfall in Karnataka. Hence, the claim made in the post is False.

On reverse image search of the screenshots of the video, a video showing similar visuals was found published by the CNN-News 18 news on 24 July 2023. The description of the video states, “Karnataka Man Dies After Falling into Overflowing Udupi Waterfall While Shooting A Reel”.

Reporting the complete details of the incident, lately, several other news agencies have also published articles and videos. They can be seen here, here, and here.  As per these news reports, 23-year-old Sharath from Shivamogga district lost his life after falling into an overflowing Arasinagundi waterfall in the Udupi district of Karnataka. The victim reportedly slipped and drowned in the waterfall while posing for an Instagram reel.

While there are latest news reports informing about a 22-year-old Shopian youth falling into the overflowing Aharbal waterfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the video shared in the post shows the visuals of another youth who was swept away in the Arasinagundi waterfall in Karnataka.

To sum it up, a video of Karnataka youth who drowned in the overflowing Arasinagudi waterfall in Udupi is shared as the visuals from Aharbal waterfall in Jammu and Kashmir.
