Claim: The video shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the cow is the best animal for sacrifice (qurbani).
Fact: The viral video is digitally manipulated. The original video, uploaded on 07 June 2024 to PM Modi’s official YouTube channel, shows him addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party, where he talks about governance and consensus, not animal sacrifice. An AI tool also flagged the viral video’s audio as artificially generated. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to the extended version of the same, dated 07 June 2024, uploaded on Narendra Modi’s official YouTube channel with the title LIVE: Shri Narendra Modi attends NDA Parliamentary Party Meeting. According to the video description, PM Narendra Modi, during the Parliamentary meet, said he would strive to ensure unanimity in all decisions of his next government and emphasised that the NDA is an organic alliance committed to the principle of ‘nation first’. Chosen by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance as its leader for a third term as Prime Minister, Modi also stated that the NDA government will focus on good governance, development, improved quality of life, and minimal interference in the lives of common citizens over the next 10 years.
We reviewed the entire video frame by frame and found that the visuals in the viral clip match Prime Minister Modi’s expressions at the 1:08:45 mark. At this point, he says, “To run a government, a majority is necessary, but to run the country, consensus is very important.” At no point does he mention or refer to animal sacrifice (qurbani), confirming that the audio in the viral video has been manipulated.
We extracted the audio from the viral video and analysed it using the Deepfake-O-Meter AI detection tool. The tool flagged the audio as manipulated and indicated that it was generated using artificial intelligence.
