Claim: The video shows escalators collapsing at BM Habitat Mall in Mysuru, causing multiple deaths.

Fact: The viral video does not depict a real incident of escalators collapsing at BM Habitat Mall in Mysuru, causing multiple deaths; it is AI-generated. Meanwhile, an accident occurred at the mall on 08 September 2025, when a false ceiling on the fourth floor collapsed. Sunil, a technician removing an advertisement board without safety equipment, and Chandru, a visitor who tried to rescue him, both fell through the fragile ceiling and died. This particular video in question does not show this incident. Hence, the claim made in the post is MISLEADING.

To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords, which led us to multiple reports (here, here, and here) stating that a tragic accident occurred on 08 September 2025 at BM Habitat Mall in Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru. A false ceiling on the fourth floor collapsed, killing Sunil, a technician, and Chandru, a visitor who tried to rescue him. Sunil had been removing an advertisement board without proper safety equipment, and both fell through the fragile ceiling. Following the incident, the building manager, Sridhar, was arrested for negligence. The four-story mall, which houses over 30 stores, is now under scrutiny for safety and maintenance lapses. However, none of the reports showed this particular viral video or mentioned any escalator collapse as claimed.

To trace the origin of the video, we performed a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral clip, which led us to the same video uploaded on TikTok by a user named ‘@motivatemove5’.

Upon reviewing ‘@motivatemove5’, we found that he frequently posts such mishap videos, which, according to his bio, are generated using artificial intelligence.

To further verify whether the viral video was AI-generated, we analysed it using AI content detection tools. Hive, an AI content detection tool, indicated a 99.9% likelihood that the video was AI-generated. Based on this evidence, it is clear that this particular viral video in question is AI-generated and does not depict a real incident.

To sum up, this viral video claiming to show an escalator collapse at BM Habitat Mall, Mysuru, is AI-generated and not real.
