A video (here, here and here) is going viral on social media claiming to show a train accident in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where a train allegedly plunged into the Ramganga River while crossing a bridge. Let’s investigate the truth behind this footage.
Claim: The viral video shows a train plunging into a river after falling off a bridge in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Fact: The video is AI-generated. The original uploader mentioned that it was created using AI, and an AI-detection tools also flagged the video as 99.9% AI-generated. No such train accident has been reported from Bareilly, hence the claim is FALSE.
To verify the truth, we closely examined the video and noticed several inconsistencies. The movement of the falling train looks unnatural, and a small coach can be seen dropping between two regular coaches, something not seen in real Indian railway structures. Such errors are commonly found in AI-generated clips.
To trace the original source, we performed a reverse image search on Google, which led us to the same video uploaded on an Instagram account named anmolbohraa. The caption on the post reads, “Learn How to Make Viral AI Reels Like This,” indicating that the clip is AI-generated.
While reviewing the profile, we found that the account is dedicated to AI-generated videos and serves as a learning platform for creating AI content. We also found several other AI-generated videos on this profile (here, here and here).
To verify whether the video was AI-generated, we analysed it using the AI-detection platform Hive. The tool flagged the clip as 99.9% AI-generated, confirming that the viral video is not real and was created using artificial intelligence.
Additionally, we conducted a keyword search to check whether any recent incident of a train plunging into a river had been reported. No such news reports were found. However, we did come across a recent incident in which a goods train coach caught fire near Bareilly Junction (here and here), but this event has no connection to the viral video.
To sum up, the video showing a train falling into a river from a bridge in Uttar Pradesh is AI-generated.
